
Essential Functions:
Reviews and incorporates data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc; reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc., to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate; Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates; consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues Provides complete conceptual and final estimating input on complex projects; coordinates provision of technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids; ensure all working documents and data are maintained to backup estimate figures; assists contracting department during preparation of inquires and final evaluation of submitted bids as required; tracks awarded contracts as required, including estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, credit, procuring materials, etc; works closely with Safety and Procurement department to ensure proper resources included in estimates.
Works jointly with other members of the project team to complete the plan prior to initiating any fieldwork. Uses the planning guidelines and tools provided throughout the project; complies with and follow contract and company quality control and quality assurance policies, procedures and requirements; works in a manner to ensure personal safety and that of follow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies; involved in project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating input; Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts
- Demonstrated experience in estimating construction of conventionally constructed buildings such as homes, dormitories, office and administration buildings, schools, hospitals, etc. and related support infrastructure
- Ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort essential
- Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimum of supervision
- Knowledge of commercial building design and construction systems
- Knowledge of construction processes and techniques
- Ability to read construction documents and specification manuals
- Ability to become familiar with facility design guidelines and outline specifications to insure project compliance
- Ability to participate in review of schematic design drawings, design development drawings and construction documents
- Considerable knowledge of: engineering mathematics, hydraulics, strength of materials and report writing in engineering and construction management; reading and interpreting plans and specification; performing quality take-off work from construction plans, methods, materials and equipment used in public works construction; knowledge of OSHA Construction Safety Orders and traffic safety procedures in construction area; and materials testing techniques
- Good ability to: follow oral and written directions; read and interpret plans and specifications; perform quality take-off work from construction plans; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; assist in training-sub professional engineering personnel; prepare minutes of meeting attended from notes taken; work effectively with contractors in enforcing provisions; make engineering computations; and maintain records
- Excellent communication, presentation, written and verbal skills
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years experience as estimator or equivalent
- Degree in Construction management or related field preferred
- Experience in wide range of building types to include office and corporate campus, municipal, hotel, and project types
- Excellent proficiency with MS Office tools, and other related software pertaining to construction and estimating
